This is That—Foundational and Transformational

Dr. Luke, the spiritually-led writer of the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts, uses an interesting phrase in Acts 2:16, 17. He writes, “But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit […] Continue reading…

Thirsting for God—The Results

We’ve been focusing on a life that thirsts after God. Psalm 63:5–10 gives us the results of such a life. David writes in verse 5: My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips. One result of a thirsty life is soul satisfaction. The first […] Continue reading…

Thirsting for God—a Passionate Priority

Thirsting for God needs to be a priority in our lives and we need to be extremely passionate about it. David writes in Psalm 63:1: O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is […] Continue reading…

Mourning Our Sin – A Lesson from King David

David sought God’s comfort. He confessed his sins. He put his face down in fear of the Lord and asked for mercy. He vehemently desired for God to blot out his transgressions and cleanse him.

The Source of Humility

Realizing who we really are in and of ourselves and how great God’s been to us should drive us to our knees. If we can’t see that clearly, and become humble in our hearts as a result, I think we’re without hope!

Managing Your Memories and Guarding Your Heart

Ask the Holy Spirit to direct you to thoughts that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, good, virtuous, and praiseworthy. Take every thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:4, 5), and if it is dark, lonely, bitter, or hurtful, throw it out! Those thoughts are of no use to you.

Standing Firm with Courage

The good news is that we can turn around and change directions. We can turn away from our prideful, arrogant, and self-sufficient ways that have crept into our lives. We can repent, draw near to Him and enter the Kingdom.

What’s Love Got to Do With It?

We should fear God (have reverential awe for Him) not just because of His amazing nature (see Exodus 34:6) but also because of His amazing love. We should worship, draw near, and hold on tightly to God in awe and reverence because of His amazing love for us. The Apostle John writes in John 4:8, […] Continue reading…

God With Us—Abiding in Him

In my last post I wrote about Immanuel—literally “God with us.” God sent His son to live among us to bring us a new life here on this earth as well as eternal life with Him, in Heaven. God not only sent His son to us. He goes one step further. God gives us the […] Continue reading…

Eternity in Our Hearts

Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 3:11, “He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.” God has put eternity in our hearts. Every person, whether they are a Christian or not, has the […] Continue reading…
