This is That—Foundational and Transformational

Dr. Luke, the spiritually-led writer of the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts, uses an interesting phrase in Acts 2:16, 17. He writes, “But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit […] Continue reading…

Thirsting for God—The Results

We’ve been focusing on a life that thirsts after God. Psalm 63:5–10 gives us the results of such a life. David writes in verse 5: My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips. One result of a thirsty life is soul satisfaction. The first […] Continue reading…

Thirsting for God—Profound, Practical, and Praise-Filled

I’ve been writing about the importance of thirsting for God. Using David’s words in Psalm 63 we can feel his intensity and his great desire for God. He thirsts and craves for God’s presence in his life. In earlier posts I pointed out that our thirsting for God is personal, a priority and passionate. In […] Continue reading…

Thirsting for God—a Passionate Priority

Thirsting for God needs to be a priority in our lives and we need to be extremely passionate about it. David writes in Psalm 63:1: O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is […] Continue reading…

Thirsting for God is Personal

Thirsting for God is highly personal. David said, in the beginning of Psalm 63, O God, You are my God. David is talking about Who he knows is his and Who He is—what he knows about Him. He knows God. He knows He is the Almighty. He knows there is none like Him. He knows […] Continue reading…

Bridging the Gulf

Christians are always stopping at the grave and trying to widen the gulf between this life and the next, but we need to realize all that God has for us in Heaven. We need to let ourselves be joyful about our future home and the home where our Christian loved ones are right now.

The Source of Humility

Realizing who we really are in and of ourselves and how great God’s been to us should drive us to our knees. If we can’t see that clearly, and become humble in our hearts as a result, I think we’re without hope!

A Parent’s Legacy

Yesterday was Father’s Day and celebrating it reminds me of a question for any parent—what’s the most important legacy you can pass down to their children? In my view, it’s our faith in Jesus Christ. It’s something so radically important for us to leave—not just to our kids, but also through generations of our […] Continue reading…

The Kindness of God

Earlier this week I blogged about kindness and tried to define it so we could understand it in the light of God’s Word. In this post I want to give an example of God’s kindness from the life of David. David is king in Israel at this point. The previous king, Saul, has been defeated […] Continue reading…

Does God Know What He’s Doing?

In my last post, I answered some questions about a loving God in the midst of suffering and pain. In this post I want to focus on why God allows prolonged suffering. The answer is because He knows what He is doing. He looks at things with an eternal perspective. He knows the beginning from […] Continue reading…
