God’s Truth is THE Foundation
God is there patiently waiting for us. He’s there to start the healing process. He’s waiting for us with comfort and truth in the Person of the Holy Spirit. John 16:7, 13 says, “Nevertheless, I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth.”
God has given His children a Comforter who guides us into His truth. If you feel disconnected from God’s comfort and truth, the Holy Spirit may be the missing link for you. I would encourage you to ask the Holy Spirit to come in and fill you with God’s truth. The Comforter will serve and soothe you as Jesus picks up the bits of your heart and carries you through the healing process.
From the beginning of our pain (see www.haveheart.net for the story), we asked the Lord for only His truth. We didn’t want to be comforted by a lie or counterfeit sympathies. We wanted God and His truth. We quickly learned that something temporary only comforts for a moment, but God’s Comforter gives something eternal in His truth.
The Holy Spirit also convicts us of what is true and what is not. He is the ultimate Teacher and Comforter. In His comforting, He brings not only the truth, but He also proves God’s Word time and time again in our hearts. This was certainly true for Sarah and I. In the time of our deepest need, all the scriptures we had bathed and marinated in for years became so precious and powerful. When the Holy Spirit brings those scriptures to mind, we can put the full weight of our trust on them. Because of this focus on truth, we will not listen to the doubt and negativity that Satan whispers in our ears. No, we will not be overcome—we will be overcomers.
