God’s Favor: Taking the Cover Off
I want to return to writing about God’s favor. I’ve shared several thoughts in previous posts because I want all of us to realize that there is more for us to experience with God that what we’re currently experiencing. I want to share this with you as boldly and as passionately as I can. There is more for us to experience that what we’re currently experiencing! We need to pursue (run to) God believing and realizing His favor.
Do you feel like you’ve exhausted God?
Personally, I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface of the Almighty. So, my prayer is, “God show me more. Reveal to me who You are and who I am in You and what is available to me in Christ.” If we consistently pray this, it will bring life change. It will bring a Spiritual revelation.
Look what the Apostle Paul prays in Ephesians 1:17, “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.” He’s asking God to show these believers more of Him. He’s asking God to lead them to understanding His favor.
The word revelation literally means, “that the cover would come off.” It means that we’re under some kind of cover and Paul is asking for that cover to be removed. That’s my prayer too, I want desperately for that cover to be removed so I can know God, who I am in Christ and realize His favor. I can’t clearly see Him and all He has for me if I’m under a cover.
In the next verse (Ephesians 1:18) Paul says, “[That] the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.” In verse 17, he asks that the cover be removed. In this verse, he asks that the light might come on. It’s a double-whammy experience. The cover comes off and the light comes on!
Have you ever had an experience where you are reading the Word and you’ve “gotten it” but then something happens: the cover comes off, the light turns on and you say, “Wow! Now I get it!” Does that happen to you? Where you absolutely get it. Where the Word is not just the written Word of God, but you understand the thought and the concept behind the written and spoken Word and it becomes life and it’s real to you. It’s not just head knowledge but it is experiential knowledge. It’s not just I just don’t know that God loves me, it’s I KNOW that God loves me! That’s what Paul is saying. He wants this cover to come off and the lights to come on for us.
He also wants us to know the hope of His calling. Paul says that he is praying that we would know the glorious hope that comes from God calling us to be His own. Do you know that there is hope in God? There is hope in Jesus. There is tremendous hope in the fact that God chose you, forgave you, redeemed you and is pointing you heavenward. There is tremendous hope in that. There is tremendous hope that I am not going to hell; I’m guaranteed heaven. Do you understand the hope of your calling or are you covering it up? Are the lights off?
God has tremendous blessing for us when we trust Him and realize His favor. The question is, are we covering it up, or are we getting to know Him so personally and intimately that we’re allowing him to uncover it for us and let His light shine on it. Are we covering up our hope? Are we so dependent on our own selves that we’re covering the hope of His calling?
Let’s pray together that we’re seeking His face and His Word to uncover what is keeping us from God’s favor. Will you join me?
