Slaying Giants and Experiencing Spiritual Blessing

Proverbs 14:27 says, “The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to turn one away from the snares of death.” It literally means that the fear (holding God in such reverential awe and worship that we hate evil and depart from it) of the Lord is the very source, well-spring, and origin of our spiritual life. To put it another way, the multifaceted, extravagant goodness of God touches every single area of our life when we fear Him.

All of God’s life and blessings burst forth and shower on us from the fountain of the fear of the Lord. It is the source of everything. I’m glad it doesn’t say that the fear of the Lord is the drinking fountain of life. It’s so much more than that! It is the fountain of life. It is the shooting out, the bursting forth, the saturating, the quenching, the all-encompassing fountain of spiritual life.

This fountain of spiritual life also produces something in us. It is given to us for a very specific purpose—to turn us away from the snares of death. It literally means when we experience the fountain of life that comes from fearing the Lord, suddenly the snare of death is turned off. The word snare means “noose,” the “hook,” the “trap” of the enemy. How ever you say it, the trap, noose and hook of the enemy are completely turned off.

Here is what it looks like: In daily life, I walk in the fear of the Lord; I experience the fountain of life; and when I do, it causes the snares and the traps and the hooks of the enemy to be turned off in my life. It means that I have experienced the overwhelming joy of walking in communion with God. The snares and traps of this world don’t have power over me.

We need to get lost in Jesus. We need to get lost in His joy and lost in His presence and lost in experiencing His goodness so when the snares of death and temptation and ungodliness come our way we look at them and boldly say, “Are you kidding me? You want me to give up this for this? You’re nuts!”

The fear of the Lord produces freedom and the supernatural ability for us to turn off of the snares, hooks and traps of death and should radically, radically touch your spiritual life.

Are you ready for spiritual blessing and freedom? What giant is in your way of completely fearing the Lord? Are you ready to slay it?
