What is Really Important?

Has our nation gone crazy? I don’t know how many of you saw what happened recently when Nike introduced their latest Air Jordan, but it was crazy. People getting pepper sprayed and creating mob-line scenes—over a tennis shoe?

When I see something like that, it really shows me how society has lots its mind about what’s really important and what really matters. This kind of mass  hysteria shows me that there’s something radically wrong.

As you look forward into the new year, let me share with you what really matters—what is really important:

  1. God Loves YOU. When read John 3:16, this verse is what should cause us to rise up. Not out of fear or anger, but out of thanksgiving and gratefulness. It should cause us to want to shout Jesus’ praise. What’s really important? God loves us where we are. He wants us to say, “Yes,” to His Son, Jesus Christ. Hell is real and perishing is real. We can choose not to perish by accepting His free gift of eternal life.
  2. God Demonstrates His Love. God doesn’t just talk about His love. He doesn’t stand (or sit) on a mountain and speak only. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” He doesn’t wait for us to get our act together. He lays our punishment on His only Son, Jesus. What’s really important? God sent his Son to be crucified for us. He demonstrates His love by giving so much to us and for us.
  3. Eternal Life. Let’s face it, all of us are going to spend eternity somewhere. We’re either going to be in Heaven, with God, or in Hell forever apart from Him. It’s our choice. John 3:36 says, “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” The reason we just celebrated Christmas is so we could have eternal life and be saved from hell. We can have a life of peace and power here on earth when we know that our eternity is secure in Him. That’s what is really important!!

Can you imagine someone bringing you a free gift that meets your most important, immediate and everlasting need? God brings you that gift and yet many people turn Him away. Why would someone say no?

This world has nothing to offer that’s really important compared to God’s free gift. The world has a pair of crummy tennis shoes. God has a gift that’s everlasting.

Are you surrendered to Jesus Christ? I guarantee that your 2012 will be much different from 2011 if you choose Jesus right now. Will you?
