God With Us — He Never Forgets
An angel visits a carpenter named Joseph and explains to him the birth of his son. The angel quotes Isaiah 7:14 and says, “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, which is God with us.” (Matthew 1:23).
God with us. Sometimes the Christmas season is so busy, we forget. Sometimes we set aside this radical truth and get so caught up in Happy Holidays that we forget. We lose sight of the fact that God came to be with us and to save us.
Holiday is a word that comes from two words—Holy and Day. “God with us” is super-important reason for a Holy Day. Fact is, it’s so important we should never forget.
God with us. The name reminds us that while we sometimes forget, God never does. He never forgot about us, in spite of everything. He sent His only Son to live with us, to teach us, and to save us. Sure, we forget, but He never does and He never will. He told us, “I’ll never leave you or forsake you.” (Joshua 1:5)
How many times have you felt like somehow God has forgotten you? You feel like your fell through the cracks?
Psalm 111:5 says, “He has given food to those who fear Him; He will ever be mindful of His covenant.” God is saying, “Listen to Me. You haven’t fallen through the cracks. Your situation hasn’t fallen through the cracks. Your job situation has not fallen through the cracks. Your marriage hasn’t fallen through the cracks. I will be ever-mindful to keep my covenant with you. I’m never going to forget. I will keep my promises. I will provide for you and take care of you and I’m sending my Son to die for you. Your life on earth and for eternity is in My hands.”
Let’s not forget Him this Christmas. Let’s not forget what He’s done for us. Let’s not forget that He sent His son to be with us. That He saved us and He will never fail to keep His promises. Let’s not forget this special Holy Day and that God came to live with us and came to die that we might have life everlasting.
